Trade Me guideStep by step
Both sides, side by side.
Each step is shown in your portal, with who needs to act next.
For sellers
- 1
Start with your registration number
We look up your car's details. You confirm them, then add photos, condition, history and your asking price. - 2
Approval and listing fee
We review your application. Once approved, you accept the seller terms and pay the listing fee. - 3
Professional photos at your place
A local photographer contacts you to book the shoot. We prepare a description from the facts you supply. - 4
You approve the listing
Nothing goes live until you approve the photos, description, specs and price together. - 5
Enquiries kept together
Interest from your listing is gathered in your portal. Buyers complete an ID check before a viewing at your place is confirmed. - 6
Your decision on every offer
Buyers make their own offers. You accept, decline or reply with your own terms, and see your expected proceeds first. - 7
Independent escrow and handover
The buyer pays into iPromise escrow. Funds are released to you under the agreed terms after handover.
For buyers
- 1
Find the car, or tell us what you want
Browse the cars or set a wish list and get an alert when a match lists. - 2
Ask your questions
Get answers from the owner's approved information, and ask the owner anything new. - 3
Book a verified viewing
Complete a quick ID check on your phone, then pick a time from the owner's available slots. - 4
Line up what you need
Request finance, a trade-in offer or a shipping quote from independent partners, all tracked in your portal. - 5
Make your offer in writing
Set your own price, conditions and dates. The owner can accept, decline or reply with their terms. - 6
Pay into escrow, then collect
Pay the agreed price to iPromise escrow. Funds are released to the seller under the agreed terms after handover.
A clear path from enquiry to payout
Always know the stage. Always know the next step.
A person helps you get ready.
Before a viewing is confirmed, the buyer has a short call with our team about timing and whether they need finance, a trade-in or transport, and completes an ID check.
